If you’re still thinking about when the dark mode will be available for WhatsApp, you should wait, as development is in progress for iOS users if of course, you’re using an older version of the OS.
The dark mode is out for Android, but, older version of iOS can’t get the dark mode for WhatsApp — but, it’s available on the latest version of iOS as well as Android.
Because dark mode has been seen to be popular among mobile devices, companies are integrating dark mode for all their apps, and newer OS versions like Android and iOS support full display dark mode for their device.
And its turn the phone full display to dark and apps that support dark mode like the Instagram latest update that support dark theme for iOS 13, 14 and Android 10, 11 and older version. Dark Mode is also available for Slack, Google Play Store, Twitter, YouTube, and Pinterest.
And most essentially — extending your phone battery. But since the dark mode isn’t yet available for an older version of iOS — the newer iOS version can use the wide system display to option dark theme for WhatsApp.

Android has taken interest in the dark theme, which gives you the option to change from white to a dark background — if you ever need to use dark mode.
WhatsApp dark mode for Android
Dark mode for WhatsApp Android is out, and you can turn it on with or without updating to the latest version of Android. Android 10 and 1 currently support the system wide display dark mode, and if you’re using this updated device, here is how you can turn it on.
- Open your phone’s settings
- Scroll down to “Display”
- Click on “Dark theme” and
- your phone will go dark
- WhatsApp dark mode will be available
Users on Android 10 and iOS 13 can use dark mode by enabling it in system settings. But if you’re using an older version of Android from 9 and below — you can turn on WhatsApp dark mode in Settings.
To turn on dark mode for WhatsApp, go to WhatsApp, and tap the three dots at the top right corner of your screen, click on Settings > Chats, and under display tap on the “Theme” and select “Dark” to enable dark mode for WhatsApp.

Make sure you’ve updated to the latest iOS version — iOS 14 or 13 — and download the latest WhatsApp update. Go to your device’s Settings > Display & Brightness and turn on Dark Mode on.

WhatsApp dark mode for Web
Okay, I know its not the official dark theme for WhatsApp web, but it works like one, while you are still waiting for the official release of WhatsApp dark theme for web, you can make good use of WhatsApp web dark mode, and save your eyes from burning light from your desktop.
To change from a white background colour scheme to a dark theme you need a browser extension called Stylus, Night Eye or Dark Reader. This Stylus extension can be used to apply any theme to any website using custom CSS.
We are using Chrome browser, so, in Chrome, go to the Chrome Web Store and search one of these extensions — Stylus, Dark Reader, or Night Eye — and install the extension to your web browser. With Stylus installed, you can download a special dark theme for WhatsApp.
Click the link followed by ‘Install Style’ and then ‘OK’, or uses Night Eye or Dark Reader to enable the dark theme for WhatsApp web.
The dark mode for WhatsApp web isn’t officially out, but we can use these extensions for WhatsApp web and Instagram web version to cancel the light from burning our eyes out.
