How To Fix Screen Recording Failed Errors due to 5823 (Failed To Save Recording)

If you have been using the iPhone device you will know that there is a feature that allows you to screen record your phone screen. With this feature, you won’t need any third-party apps on your device.

When you are done screen recording your screen the video will be available on your camera roll. What happened if the video didn’t save and was stopped by an error.

The screen recording feature might take a turn and give you some fault when trying to record your screen.

For most people, after recording for hours they discovered that the video didn’t save on their device and some were stopped due to a failed error.

And “screen recording failed to save due to: -5823.” And “screen recording failed to save due to: The operation couldn’t be completed. (Cocoa error – 1)” And “Screen Recording failed to save due to: Failed to save recording”

These screen recording failed errors are caused by reasons known to your device, and if you’re recording unauthorized content. You need to fix the problem with the built-in screen recorder for you to continue saving recorded videos.

Why Didn’t My Screen Recording Save?

There are different reasons why your screen recording didn’t save on your device, and for the context, you can’t get it back.

When you get a different error while you try saving your recording on your iPhone device you might think of some reasons that may trigger the error but it’s limited and could be anything.

If the screen recording failed due to 5823 it may be because you don’t have enough space or you’re recording copyrighted protected content.

1. Low Storage Space

Fix 1: Don’t Record Copyrighted Protected Content

If you try to screen record and save copyrighted protected content you will be welcome with “Screen recording failed due to: Failed to save recording.

This is to protect the video or property you are trying to record and this would stop your iPhone from saving the screen-recorded video.

If you try to screen record a Netflix video or other streaming service video you will not be able to record the protected content.

And thus the error will be shown on your screen stopping the screen recording from saving.

Fix 2: Check For Screen Recording Restriction

If you are experiencing a failed attempt when you try to save your screen recording you will need to check for screen recording restrictions on your iPhone or iPad Settings.

To check for any privacy restrictions go to your iPhone or iPad Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. Screen Recording should be set to Allow under Game Center.

Before you screen record anything make sure you have enough storage space.

Videos take a lot of storage space, the higher the quality, the higher the video size.

Fix 4: Disable Low Power Mode

Your screen recording may also fail to save because your iPhone or iPad is on low on battery mode.

This will turn your battery bar yellow. If your device is low consider charging your phone before screen recording any content.

To allow the screen recording app saved to your camera roll on your device you will need to disable the low battery power mode option. Go to Settings > Battery.

Fix 5: Restart Or Force Restart Your iPhone

Restarting your iPhone will refresh your device and clear all the apps running.

If there’s any little bug that doesn’t want the notification to go away, you might get it removed by just restarting your iPhone.

To restart your iPhone or iPad go to Settings > General and scroll down and tap Shut Down.

iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Side button (sleep/wake) and the Home button together until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side and Volume Down buttons together until you see the Apple logo.

iPhone 8 or later iPhone models: Press and release the Volume Up and then press and release Volume Down button and press and hold the Side (sleep/wake) button until the Apple logo appears.

iPad Pro 11-inch or iPad Pro 12.9-inch: Press and release the Volume Up button and press /release the Volume Down button and then press and hold the Home button until you see the Apple logo.

Fix 6: Update Your iPhone Or iPad

If your device has a bug that’s restricting you from saving screen recording videos you will need to update your iPhone and iPad to the latest version.

This will remove all the bugs and glitches and possibly fix your failed attempt to save screen recording videos.

To Update your iPhone or iPad device to the latest version of iOS & iPadOS. You can to Settings > General > Software Update. Download and Install if there’s a new update.

Fix 7: Reset All Settings

The next option you should be looking at is resetting all iPhone or iPad settings, this doesn’t erase your data on your device, just the settings you have made changes to.

To reset all settings open your iPhone Settings > General > Reset. Tap on Reset All Settings, tap Reset All Settings again and confirm with your iPhone passcode.

Fix 8: Factory Reset Your iPhone

If you have tried everything possible on this fix and nothing seems to be working, you could try resetting your iPhone.

Go to your iPhone Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.

You will be prompted to backup your iPhone data, if you haven’t tap on Back Up Then Erase, if not skip and Erase.

Enter your device passcode to confirm the factory reset, then tap Ok.

Fix 9: Contact Apple Support

If you have tried all the fix and the issues are unsolved then you will need to contact Apple support to get this fixed.

Can I still retrieve a screen recording that didn’t save?

No. A screen recording you didn’t save on your device can’t be restored. You cannot recover your recordings so make sure that you have enough storage before recording your screen again.
