That kind of feeling you get when your phone is missing, maybe your phone just got stolen and you have no idea where to look from. What will you do if your phone gets lost?. Whether you are still searching for the location of your device and yet no clue about it this is where Find My Device comes in; a Google tool used for tracking mobile phones and securing them.
Google as a company discover that mobile phones missed all the time; that was then (although still common now,) was the reason that led to the creation of Google Find My Device, and initially it was Google Android Manager.
In a nutshell, I can say that the app help you manage your device from another device even if the mobile phone is far far away but the lost phone must have an internet connection.
Although the effort of trying to get your device back might be helpless sometimes and dangerous as well because you don’t know who has taken your phone.
I know that Find My Device can location the phone’s destination using a few clicks.
But there are settings you can apply to if you know you won’t be getting your device back with the option for formatting your device or secure the device with other functions.
How its Work
How it works can’t be so different from using other Android applications. The app has a basic option from recovery your device and protecting your information.
Although it not that kind of app that does with lots of features. per say that you will be using Google Find My Device; you just have two ways of using the program–we have two options: you can download the app from the Google Play Store or use the Find My Device website.
Note: You can just Google “find my phone” and the location of your device will be displayed in the search engine.
The first thing you should do when you open the Find My Device website or app is to check the location of your device. It will be displayed automatically and you’ll be able to see it on the map. With the Find My Device, you can check the percentage of your mobile phone.
You should know that you can only see your lost phone on the map if and only if the location/GPS is turn on. You won’t see it if the GPS is turned off or the phone has being factory reset or has been turned off.
With the Find My Device, you can play sound, all in–for all this to work your Gmail account must be sign-in/login to that device that you want to get the location or even play sound. With the play sound option you can ring the device with just a single click–with full volume for as long as 5 mins; even if it is set to silent mode.
If for an instant you got the location of the device right on the map, and you’re in the premises or the area of that coordinate—you can ring the device with just a click; all you have to do is “Play Sound” and you might get to see you missing phone back.
With Find My Device you can secure your device, per say that you can lock your device from another device–I can say that the function is one of its best, with this all you have to do is to click on the “Secure Device” from there you can enter a recovery message and phone number; it will display it on the lost or stolen phone’s screen.
Adding a phone number is something to consider in case someone finds the phone he or she can reach out to you just by tapping on the call button on the lost phone screen.
The disadvantage of the use of Find My Device is that the features can only work when the lost mobile phone is connected to the internet.
You can erase your device—if you feel and you know you won’t be getting to see your device again–that is if it was stolen, you can perform a factory reset; which will wipe all your file off your device. With that being said no one can then get access to your personal information–this only works if the device is online but if your device is offline, the file will be deleted next time it connects to the internet.
Note: Once your device is factory reset you’ll no longer be able to check the location on the map or use any of the other options said in this post.
The erase feature might not delete the content from a MicroSD card.
The reason for this is that all the features only work if the device is signed into your Google account as well have said from the beginning of this post. The same goes for find my iPhone app.
If your device was stolen and you see the location, we highly advise you to call the police instead of trying to get it back yourself.
