Messenger doesn’t have end-to-end encryption, but you can turn on secret chat to ensure your messages are private and secure between you and the user behind. Secret chat for Messenger has been introduced for users to protect their message, but only a few knows.

How to set up Messenger secret chat
To use secret chat for Messenger, you just have to select the users you want to chat with and get started with it.
1. Launch the Messenger app on your Android or iPhone device. If you want to enable encrypted end-to-end messages for your account, you’ll need to first enable “Secret Conversations.”
2. On your Messenger app, click on your profile picture. Under preference, select “Privacy” and tap on “Secret Conversations,” and enable it.

3. Go back and select the chat you want to use secret chat with. Once you’ve chosen the chat, click on the notification (more) icon at the top right corner of your screen and click on “Go to secret Conversation” to start sending encrypted messages.

Once you start a secret chat with a user you’ll be able to send encrypted end-to-end messages. Facebook won’t be able to see your messages. If you don’t use Messenger’s secret chat your chat won’t be encrypted and the messages can be read.
