Huawei overtake Apple in global smartphone sales last year

Despite the US sanction ban against Huawei, it's still surpassed a US company Apple to take the second place of smartphone sales last year. After the sanction, Huawei still came out in the top 5 after Samsung. it'll be difficult for and mobile phone company to take over Samsung except there have something more valuable to offer.

The Huawei ban started last year in mid-2019 and it still valid till now. The US places the company on the entity list of us department of commerce. Seeing the Chinese company as a threat to the country with the issue of security.

The sanction that was placed on Huawei also prohibits them from acquiring or purchasing any components or part from and U.S. companies. And this makes some top U.S. technology companies stop partnering with Huawei and also neglect the U.S. of Google Android operating system and all the apps related to google with restrictions to other use of U.S. components.

Forgetting the part where the U.S. sanction Huawei there really make a good effort. Huawei was able to take almost 40% market share in its home market of China, which accounted for over 60% of its shipments according to Counterpoint Research.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Apple was able to take the top spot in global smartphone sales, this was because of the iPhone 11.

In increased in shipment Samsung saw a 2% increased from 291.8 million units in 2018 to 296.5 million units last year, while Huawei increased by 16% from 205.3 million units in 2018 to 238.5 million units and Apple went down by 5%  from 206.3 million units in 2018 to 196.2 million units in 2019.
